It’s up to you to drive the next steps after a pitch. Don’t expect investors to set the expectations other than “we’ll get back to you”. They expect you to drive.

After every meeting, make sure to:

  • Focus on Questions. Capture every question asked and ensure you’ve sent follow-up answers if they weren’t available in the meeting.
  • Set a Follow Up Time. Suggest meeting in a few days or next week – don’t “wait around” for a call back.
  • Ask for Referrals. Many investors will introduce you to other investors, even if they don’t invest themselves. This is fairly common but few Founders take advantage of this opportunity.

Those are the things that we can control. Whether or not an investor responds or continues the conversation long term is up to them. But we want to make sure we’ve checked every box that is on us.
